This Victorian dollhouse is the fourth dollhouse that I've built. This one
is a 1/2 inch scale model which means 1/2 inch on the dollhouse equals 1 foot in
real life. The majority of dollhouses are 1 inch scale (1" = 1'). If you
think about it, 1/2 inch scale isn't 1/2 the size of 1 inch, it's 1/4 the size.
Even in 1/2 inch, this particular dollhouse is pretty large. I don't know that I
would build another 1/2 inch scale house. They have a number of unique problems.
For one, the picture that I use for my plans is really for the 1 inch scale, and
not all details are the same. I've spent hours at times looking for a window
that ended up not being included for this model. Also, I have rather large
hands, and some of the parts are extremely tiny. Of course, I have tools to help
me with that, but I find it very difficult to work with such small pieces.
I've been working on this one sporadically since around January 1998. The
outside is about 3/4 completed. It still needs a lot of the trim work. The
inside has a long way to go.
